‘Scattered Joy’ is a compelling photographic collection of dignified Asian women and children. Each photo portrays a colorful story and celebration of ancient traditions and cultures. Shot by the award-winning photojournalist and founder of Phylos, Alexandra Seegers, Scattered Joy embraces the preservation and conservation of motherhood and heritage.

The book promotes awareness of traditions that are, in many cases, on the verge of extinction. Recognized as an important contribution to the historical documentation of women, Seegers’ photos were exhibited at the United Nations at the headquarters of UNICEF.

In the foreword of ‘Scattered Joy’, Cristina Morato, writer, journalist and vice-chairperson of the Spanish Geographical Society said: “The photographs in this magical, optimistic book irradiate color and immense joy.” She adds, “Told from the feminine perspective with respect, sensitivity and complicity towards other women struggling to keep their traditions and identity alive amidst poverty, exploitation and war.”

IMPACT
Launched at Tibet House in New York City, Alexandra’s photographs from the book ‘Scattered Joy’ have appeared in exhibitions around the world. The project was also featured on EFE, the leading Spanish language news agency. It embraces cultural diversity and has contributed to the preservation of culture and the celebration of women in areas where women’s rights continue to be in dispute.
